Read MoreWhy Segment Routing Excites Us
What if your business could have more control over the path data takes through your network? What if you could choose not just the lowest cost path, but the lowest latency route, a maximum security path, or automate any combination of your business intents? By Brent Van Dussen, Head of Network Engineering Mitchell Warden, Distinguished Network Architect William Stephens, Senior Network Engineer People who work in networking know best that traffic routing across IP networks can be inconsistent and unpredictable. Our job is to build a network with the right kit using the right technology to create the most reliable, predictable, and scalable backbone, while working in an adequate level of redundancy in case something does go wrong.

As businesses continue to globalize, embrace remote operations, and increase their use of multicloud, adoption of Network as a Service (NaaS) solutions is increasing. According to the Forrester Analytics’ Global Business Technographics® Network and Telecom Survey, 2020, the most common reason companies are adopting as-a-service networking is to provide more flexibility to their business (39%). And a huge part of the flexibility that a NaaS provides is the ability to scale.

Read MoreSimplify Your Hybrid IT Operations with AWS Outposts
AWS Outposts is a fully managed service that brings AWS infrastructure, AWS services, APIs, and tools to your data center, colocation space, or on-premises facility for a truly consistent hybrid experience. 1. What is AWS Outposts? If you ask someone to describe an outpost, they might detail a historic outpost of the American frontier, like Fort Sedgewick in Dances with Wolves. AWS Outposts is a great name for the product. Launched at the re:Invent 2018, AWS Outposts is a single rack, exact replica of what AWS runs in their own data centers and delivers a fully managed, consistent hybrid cloud experience. AWS will actually visit your data center or colocation facility, install the Outposts hardware and configure it to connect back to the nearest AWS Region. Once configured, the Outposts is managed, monitored, and updated by AWS just like in the cloud.

Read MoreWhy Cloud-to-Cloud Connectivity is Key in Canada
Eliminate unnecessary latency and modernise your network with direct cloud-to-cloud connectivity. Let’s say your company is located in Calgary and uses Oracle and AWS clouds to run its Oracle databases, with data being sent between the two providers. Common examples of this are companies running Oracle databases within an AWS virtual machines. All of the major cloud providers in Canada – AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud – have their physical infrastructure located in Toronto, Montreal, or Quebec City. In Canada, there are no cloud regions west of Toronto and currently there are no plans for any of the big hyperscalers to build out new regions in central and western Canada. Your traffic would go from the Oracle region in Toronto or Montreal back to your on-premises network in Calgary and hairpin back out to the AWS infrastructure in Montreal. This routing scenario is illustrated in the diagram below.

Read MoreSimplifying Routing Across Multiple AWS Regions with a Virtual Router Service
Learn about the advantages of using Megaport Cloud Router (MCR) to route traffic across multiple AWS Regions. Routing traffic between virtual private clouds (VPCs) has seen several generations of evolution. VPC peering enabled instances in different VPCs to communicate with each other as if they were within the same network. Later, AWS Transit Gateway, akin to a virtual router, provided a more scalable, simpler networking solution within a given AWS Region.
Read MoreGetting Started with Megaport APIs
Megaport APIs can save you time and effort in provisioning and managing your network connections. Modern enterprises workloads, cloud deployments, and Software Defined Network management are but a few areas that have enjoyed a high level of automation over the past few years. Automation provides efficiencies for enterprises that wish to speed service delivery, boost employees’ productivity, and avoid repetitive manual operations. A good way to take advantage of the benefits automation offers is through the use of APIs, which can save you considerable time and effort in provisioning and managing your network connections. A recent study from MIT shows that a plurality of organisations are adopting APIs as a key part of their digital transformation journey.

Read MoreMulticloud Is Great, but It’s Only as Good as Your Intercloud Connectivity
A fast and flexible virtual network can fulfill the promise of multicloud. According to Gartner, 81% of organisations use services from two or more cloud providers. That’s an astonishing majority, and one that may only increase in the future as the enterprise world increasingly favours multicloud strategies. But, here’s the problem. The cloud is all about flexibility, and the promise that you can access critical data and systems from anywhere. With multicloud, this promise isn’t fulfilled. That’s because, though you can access all your data in different physical locations, you can’t access it from different virtual locations. One cloud can’t directly access another’s data, leading to all kinds of integration barriers.
Read MoreThink You’re Too Far From Your Preferred Cloud Vendor? We Have a Solution.
If the public cloud services you use are too far from your premises, why not just bring them closer? The cloud was intended to bring the very best IT solutions to everyone, regardless of your organisation’s size, budget, or technical know-how. Sadly, that hasn’t been true for everyone. Because even though you can purchase a cloud service and run it from anywhere in the world, your location still matters. The latency, the compliance risks, and even the costs of getting up and running at acceptable speeds, can have a big impact on what you can get from the cloud.

How to connect your offices, private data centres, and public cloud partners – easily. Businesses thrive on communication – with customers, with partners, and with suppliers. Very few organisations operate in isolation, so it makes sense that communicating with the external arms of your workplace should be as easy and secure as possible. Some prefer to keep external communications limited to standard business applications, such as email and document sharing tools, along with other SaaS-based solutions, which may work perfectly well for certain verticals.
Read MoreManaging Traffic in the Age of Multicloud
How virtual routing solves the challenges associated with managing multicloud connections. There’s no doubt for those working in enterprise IT, multicloud is an exciting concept. Getting the best that the cloud has to offer from multiple expert partners, crafting your own ideal cloud partner portfolio and environments, and reducing the risks associated with relying on a single cloud provider – for many, it’s the stuff of dreams. But for those in charge of managing network traffic, the thought of routing and controlling workloads between diverse clouds can be enough to inspire sleepless nights. Typically, there are three main concerns network teams have when it comes to multicloud traffic management:
